Introducing my little family

Hi, I'm Amy and this is my Blog about my little family and our adventures on our farm in Northern France. I live with my husband James and our 3 month old daughter Aspen-Rose. Both James and I are originally from the UK (Chichester, West Sussex) and moved over to France in June 2016. Aspen was born over here in France at the hospital at Caen on 12th July 2021.

Let me give you a brief overview of where we live and what we do…

We have a 50 acre farm on the border of Normandy and Mayenne (53140) on which we raise many different animals including cows, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, geese, ducks and guinea pigs. We also have our 2 dogs Phoenix and Pax (2 year old Australian Shepherd cross German Shepherds, brother and sister) and our cat, Pixie. We farm using sustainable, regenerative and permaculture methods. As well as farming we have holiday cottages on the farm for our guests to come and enjoy the tranquil setting and our animals.

James and I have spent the last 5 years studying and implementing our specialised subjects. For me it has been Permaculture, whereas James has been studying pasture management and regenerative grazing methods for ruminants. Within my future blogs I will be sharing our research, trials, wins and fails with you. Subjects likely to be covered are the systems we use to raise our animals (including rotational systems, total grazing methods and free-ranging), animal welfare, selecting the best breeds for your farm or homestead, clean living, renovation work, wildlife habitats, biodiversity, permaculture principles, foraging, creating our food forest, woodland and hedgerow management, silvo pastures, the importance of diet (both for us and for our animals), recipes, cooking and preserving, raising a child on the farm and so much more! I really hope you enjoy the reading and find the subjects interesting and informative. To find out why we chose to move to France, see my next Blog!
