Animal management and welfare - half day course (2pm to 6pm)

Good welfare leads to excellent health and production. Understanding behaviour allows us to pre-empt problems. Learn how to work in harmony with each species’ five basic needs to provide an optimal environment in which your animals will thrive. We will cover the basic requirements for health, nutrition, environment, sociability and behaviour for domestic ruminants, poultry and carnivores. You’ll learn how to appraise behaviour and body language as early indicators of health issues. Meet the animals, including pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese. Option to specialize in goats or chickens on request.

Mid-afternoon refreshments included.
